Every drumbook is written in a specific order, some start easily and become more and more difficult, other books are divided into categories so you can determine your ideal route yourself. The books for 360DRUMS are part of that second group. In the book I present 3 different routes, where my favorite is the 3rd. This article helps you to understand a bit more about this ‘custom’ route.
For every beginner student I start playing the quarter note beats (8.1). This leads to the first eight note beats (1.1 and 1.2). After that I see different students step into different paths. The illustration below can guide you.
On the other hand, when a students wants to study a specific hihat ostinato, the same route plan can guide him/her. The main questions are: “Is the result solid?” and “What type of next step fits the best to your student?”
